Avid Launches Groovy Music City Software

Targeted for 7-12 Year-old Music Creators, Package Includes 128 General MIDI Instruments and a Library of Sounds and Loops

LAS VEGAS, NEV, 01/07/2009 -

Avid Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: AVID) today announced Groovy Music City, an easy-to-use software program that inspires 7- to 12-year-olds to be creative through music composition. Developed by the same team that created Sibelius® world-leading music education software, Groovy Music City takes all of the mystery out of complex musical concepts, while giving young Mac® or PC users the tools they need to have fun creating and sharing their own tunes.

Groovy Music City software accommodates any style of music and includes all of the basic musical elements required to create a song: melody, rhythm, chords, arpeggios, bass, tempo, dynamics and unique sound effects that complement a virtually unlimited number of music styles. In addition to accessing the full range of 128 general MIDI instruments, users can also attach a MIDI keyboard to create their own unique compositions. A library of sounds that includes patterns as well as individual sounds can also be used to create hip-hop, classical, jazz and contemporary styles of music as well as more traditional genres.

Groovy Music City software immerses customers into a futuristic city landscape adventure where users can move shapes and characters to create their own music. Shapes are used to represent music elements such as rhythms, melodies and chords. Then, the cartoon character they select literally walks them through the music creation process. As the characters move across the screen, the shapes/sounds they pass along the way play so users can see and hear how their music is progressing.

With Groovy Music City software, there is a safe, free, kid-friendly community site www.groovymusic.com, users can upload, share and get comments on the music they create. They can also rate songs posted by other kids, download them and view the weekly Top 10 Chart. To ensure complete safety, there is no chatting or messaging on the site. Feedback on uploaded songs is only given by choosing pre-written comments.
